Teamwork & Expectations

Teamwork & Expectations

Professional Atmosphere

CSE120 operates with a business-like, professional atmosphere. Anything that distracts from learning — conversing during presentations, inappropriate comments, etc. — is not acceptable.

Team Participation

  • Meeting minutes are due weekly for every team meeting
  • Every team member must actively contribute to deliverables
  • Individual grades are adjusted based on contributions and peer evaluation (see Self & Peer Evaluations)
  • Failure to attend meetings, fulfill tasks, or participate in presentations will result in an F in the course

Attendance Policy

Session Allowed Unexcused Absences
Lectures Up to 2
Labs Up to 2
  • Report absences using this form before the session
  • Failure to report = unexcused
  • Exceeding the limit = F in the course

Deadlines & Late Work

Assignment Type Grace Period Penalty
Lab assignments 7 days after due date 10% late penalty
Final project (initial → final draft) No penalty window Must submit initial draft by due date
Reading / individual assignments No grace period Must submit by due date
  • No work accepted past the available-until date
  • Extension requests must follow email etiquette
  • No submissions accepted via email

Collaboration & Academic Integrity

Team assignments: Collaboration within your team is expected and natural.

Individual assignments: All work must be entirely your own. No LLMs, no collaboration with others.

LLM and external code policy: - You may use LLMs (ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.) to generate initial drafts - You must revise and refine — no unaltered AI output - Cite the source in code comments - Explain how you adapted the code - Over-reliance without understanding may affect your assessment

🔬 Behind the design: The team formation and role rotation structure is informed by research from the CSED Lab. See how algorithmic team assignment and the individual multiplier grading model were developed.

The Reasonable Person Principle

A reasonable request made in a reasonable way shall be reasonably handled by reasonable individuals. The instructor and TAs are reasonable people — we expect everybody else involved in this class to be as well.
